Here are case histories
of the residents of New Zealand rivers. As you read them, consider
the key ecological factors. You might
make a list of the key ecological factors and see which ones are
especially important in each case.
Pick a creature or
situation in your waterway and write a similar case history for
it. This will involve you in the basic training needed to become
a good River Detective. Before you begin, be sure to do some background
searching in the library to find out what's already known about
the critter. Check out your knowledge of each of the key ecological
factors in the critter's neighbourhood.
